About

Raised on a farm on the coast of North Cornwall, Richard Knight moved to London in the mid-80’s to study graphic design and illustration at Kingston University. After spending many years working in the creative industries, as both an illustrator and graphic designer, Knight refined his artistic approach and began his journey as a full-time artist.

Knight seeks inspiration in many things, urban life, people, objects, they challenge him to capture the perpetually evolving patterns and rhythms of our surroundings. He paints this 'dance to the music of time' by combining an observational drawing style with colour, marks, texture, and pattern.

Knight describes himself as a resident tourist in London. After many years away from his farming roots he still gazes in wonderment at the compilation of light, buildings, figures and energy that make up a big city. His paintings aim to interpret that visual chaos and conformity in a modern impressionist manner of his own making; with layers of stencilled, colourful abstract marks in oil and acrylic combined with a natural observational drawing style which now extends to painting mechanical machines of every nature and putting them out of context, with untraditional colour or background.

His work features in many private collections, across Europe, the Middle East, and the United States.
